Manhattan Places Two On MAAC All-Tournament Team
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Two members of the Manhattan College softball team have been named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Tournament Team. Junior Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY) and sophomore Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT), both First Team All-MAAC selections, were recognized after leading the Jaspers to a fourth-place finish in the event.
Matazinsky earned the win in Manhattan's 4-3 victory over Siena on Thursday. She tossed five innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out three and walking two. Matazinsky then had two hits and scored a run against Marist on Friday.
Pitney, meanwhile, crushed a two-run homer in the first inning of the win over Siena. She delivered an RBI single in her next at-bat to give the Jaspers an insurance tally in the eventual 4-3 victory. Pitney ended up 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and three RBIs in the win.
Manhattan finished 34-21 this season, matching the program record for wins set in 1993. The Jaspers won 30 games for the second straight year and made their fourth consecutive MAAC Tournament appearance.
