Rising Senior Madden Wins U23 Two Man Lightweight Title

Mercer Lake, NJ - Rising senior Danny Madden along with former Mercyhurst University teammate Galen Bernick combined to win the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls at the U23 US World Championship and Junior World Trials on Mercer Lake.

Madden and Bernick will next represent the United States in the World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria beginning on July 19.

“It's been a tremendous experience thus far and I am really excited to be able to represent both the United States and Manhattan College at worlds,” said Madden.

The duo, which competed as members of the Southern California Scullers Club, posted a time of 6:21.57 in easily defeating the second-place boat by just over six seconds.  

Madden also finished fourth in the U23 Lightweight Time Trail with a time of 6:10.43.

The New Rochelle native began his collegiate career as a member of Mercyhurst's men's lightweight rowing team, spending two years in Erie, PA.
