|Jaspers Return to Pool for Final Meets of Season|
The Manhattan 2011-12 Swimming Media Guide Is Now Available
RIVERDALE, NY - After more than a month off, the Jaspers Men's and Women's swim teams return to the pool this weekend for their final meets of the 2011-12 season. The men will have two while the women will swim once. Both meets will be held at Riverdale Country Day School.
The Men's team (11-5) have been paced by the dominant sprint swimming of junior Robert Varieur as well as his classmate Cullen Balcanoff. The two will lead the rest of the squad in two meets this weekend. On Fri., Jan. 27, Saint Peter's comes to Riverdale for a meet beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by NJIT on Sat., Jan. 28 at 1:45 p.m.
As for the women, they will finish up their regular season swimming on Friday against Saint Peter's. Senior Bridget Latino leads the Jaspers (7-10) who dropped a meet with Saint Peter's earlier this season 126-75.
This weekend will also mark the final time three seniors will compete in front of their home crowd. Prior to Saturday's meet Latino, along with Mary Kate O'Leary and Robert Kehoe, will be recognized for their efforts and dedication to the program in their four years in Riverdale.
Kehoe, a two sport athlete, has worked primarily as a manager and assistant with the swim program while competing with the Jaspers golf team in each of his four seasons.
O'Leary, a team captain, has also helped in multiple facets throughout her career. She was also a four-time Academic All-American
Latino, another four year Academic All-American, has single-handedly re-written the record books for Manhattan College. She owns 13 total records including ten individual marks. They include six freestyle events, two butterfly, the 200 backstroke, three medleys and single season points (274.50). Latino is also the first women's swimmer to be named team MVP in all four years.
