|Manhattan Ends Regular Season on High Note|
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In their final meet of the regular season, the Manhattan Men's swim team came out victorious with an 89-69 win over NJIT on Saturday afternoon at Riverdale Country Day School.
The Jaspers would win each of the first four events against the Highlanders with the team of Cullen Balcanoff, Dennis Daly, PJ Sweeney, and Robert Varieur combining to take the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:43.20. RJ Meany would then follow with a time of 1:54.08 in the 200 yard freestyle before Varieur and Daly picked up consecutive wins in the 50 yard free and 200 yard Individual Medley respectively.
With a 61-10 lead through the first four events, the Jaspers would swim exhibition meets in the next three events before Sweeney became a double-winner on the day with his dominant performance in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.76 seconds. Sweeney would earn another victory on the day as he joined Varieur, Ryan Klages and Michael Scire to win the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:32.53 seconds. Both Sweeney and Varieur would finish the day as triple winners while Daly would be victorious in two different events.
Prior to the meet, Head Coach Walter Olsewski and the rest of the team honored three seniors from both the men's and women's team. Robert Kehoe along with women's swimmers Bridget Latino and Mary Kate O'Leary were acknowledged for their tireless support and contributions to Manhattan swimming in their four years.
The Men finish their season at 12-6 in meets and now wait to compete at the MAAC Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. beginning on Feb. 15.
