Varieur and Latino Lead Jaspers into ECACís
Junior sprinter Robert Varieur will compete in two individual events, the 50 and 100 yard freestyle, along with multiple relays for the Jaspers men's team. Varieur helped to set seven different school records at the MAAC championships in Buffalo, N.Y., including three individual marks.
Other men who will make the trip include PJ Sweeney who will compete in the 500 yard freestyle, the 100 and 200 yard butterfly. Mickey Ruddy qualified for the ECAC's with times in the 50 and 100 free as well as the 100 butterfly. Mike Mackay, Ryan Klages, Cullen Balcanoff, Dennis Daly, and Scott Isaacs all qualified in three events as well, along with Chris Fusco who will participate in the 200 freestyle and 200 yard backstroke.
On the women's side, senior captain Bridget Latino shattered her own record in the 200 yard butterfly with a blazing time of 2:06.94 seconds. She will also compete in the 200 freestyle and 100 fly events along with the 200 freestyle relay. Joining her on the relay team will be Kim Geissler, Nadine Maher, and Melanie Tam. That core combined to set the school mark in the event at the MAAC's with a time of 1:40.91 seconds.
The ECAC's will take place at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. with competition beginning on Fri., Feb., 24 continuing through the weekend ending on Sun., Feb., 26.
