Eight Swimmers Earn All-Academic Honors

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan swim program saw eight of it's swimmers, five women and three men, earn Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic honors while each team earned national recognition College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

On the women's side of the pool, seniors Bridget Latino and Mary Kate O'Leary were named to the MAAC All-Academic team along with Jackie Mamary, Melanie Tam, and Kaitlin Zielaznicki. Latino, a Communications major, earned a 3.38 grade point average. O'Leary led the Jaspers with a 3.81 GPA as a Marketing major.

The men's team saw Mickey Ruddy, Dennis Daly, and Chris Fusco made the team. Ruddy has a 3.75 GPA as an Electrical Engineering major for Manhattan.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and have a GPA of 3.20 or higher.

As a team, the Manhattan Men's squad ranked 39th out of 72 total teams that qualified in the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team rankings for the fall 2011 semester while the women finished 104th out of 163 with a cumulative GPA of 3.11 and 3.22 respectively. This marks the 30th consecutive semester the women's team has qualified dating back to the spring of 1997, the longest active streak in Division 1 swimming. To qualify as a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team, the entire squad must have a team GPA of 3.00 or higher.
