RIVERDALE, N.Y. – After a 12-point weekend against Robert Morris and Detroit, Manhattan College junior attack James Synowiez (Owego, N.Y.) has been named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week. Synowiez had eight goals and four assists in the two games. In addition, freshman goalkeeper Troy Orzech (Franktown, Colo.), who earned the win against Detroit, was named MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Synowiez, who joined the Jaspers this season after two years at Onondaga Community College, scored four times, including a man-up tally, and added an assist in Manhattan’s 11-8 loss to Robert Morris on Friday. He recorded seven points the following afternoon against Detroit, as the Jaspers posted a 14-9 victory for their first win of the season. Synowiez registered four goals, including three with the man-up, and distributed three assists in the win.
Orzech made his first collegiate start in goal against Detroit and earned the victory. He allowed nine goals and stopped 15 of the Titans’ 38 shots in the game, which was good for a save percentage of .625.
The Jaspers (1-2) are back in action when they visit six-time National Champion Princeton (2-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be the first all-time meeting between the schools.
