West Point, N.Y. (April 11, 2007)- Manhattan scored six runs over the seventh and eighth innings to open up a close game on the way to a 9-4 road victory over the Army Black Knights this afternoon at Doubleday Field.  The Jaspers improve to 16-11 on the season, winning their eighth straight and 12th in their last 13 games.  Manhattan also improved its NCAA best road winning streak to 11 games.

Army scored single runs in the first, second, and third innings, while Manhattan was able to produce a run in the top of the third.  Nunzio Franzese singled with one out, advanced to third on an Anthony Armenio double, and scored on an Eric Nieto RBI single.

The score remained 3-1 in favor of the home team until the fifth inning.  Nick Derba reached on an Army error to load the bases with two outs before Mike Garcia singled to plate Rene Ruiz and Eric Nieto to knot the score at 3-3.

The Jaspers took their first lead of the game in the seventh, scoring three runs, all with two outs.  After the first two batters were retired, Matt Rizzotti reached on an error to extend the inning, and Nick Derba walked to put two runners on for Garcia, who ripped a double to score Rizzotti before another Black Knight error allowed Derba to score on a batted ball by Kevin Nieto.

Manhattan increased its advantage to 9-3 in the top of the eighth, scoring three more runs.  Rizzotti and Derba each worked bases loaded walks to score Erik Lucas and Eric Nieto, respectively, and Ruiz would score the third run on a double play.

A single, a double, and an RBI groundout plated a run for Army in the bottom of the eighth to provide the final margin.

Jeremy Shaw (1-2) twirled 4.1 innings of no-hit ball in relief to earn his first win of the season, facing just one batter over the minimum.

The Jaspers return to action this weekend, hosting Marist College in a three-game MAAC series.  Manhattan and Red Foxes will play a double-header on Saturday, April 14, and single, nine-inning game on Sunday, April 15.  The first pitch on both days is slated for 12 noon.  The 1957 Metropolitan Baseball Conference Champion and NCAA Regional Participant Baseball team will be honored on Saturday.
