RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College freshman guard Michael Alvarado was recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday earning the league's Rookie of the Week award. Alvarado scored 23 points on Saturday to help lead the Jaspers to a 75-70 season opening victory at NJIT.

In his first collegiate game, the 6'2" point guard from the Bronx grabbed five rebounds, shot 41.7% (5-12) from the field and converted 12-of-15 (80%) free-throws in 40 minutes of action. Alvarado sank 11 of his free-throws in the second half, including six clutch buckets from the charity stripe in the final 2:19 to seal the win over the Highlanders. He also had two assists and one steal.
