RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The complete 2009-10 Manhattan College women's basketball schedule was unveiled today by Head Coach John Olenowski, in conjunction with the release of the complete Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule by the conference office. The 29-game slate includes five games against squads that played in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Manhattan's 11-game non-conference slate, which was previously announced, gets underway on Nov. 13 when St. Francis (NY) visits Draddy Gymnasium. Two days later, the Lady Jaspers visit a Virginia team that reached the second round of last season's NCAA Tournament. It will be just the second all-time meeting between the squads, and the first since the 1996 NCAA Tournament. Manhattan returns home to face Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 22, then visits Columbia (Nov. 24) and 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Sacred Heart (Nov. 28) to conclude the first month of the season.
The Lady Jaspers host the first meeting in program history against Elon on Dec. 1, then play their final two non-conference road games at 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Vermont (Dec. 6) and Army (Dec. 8). Manhattan begins a five-game homestand against Hofstra on Dec. 12. After a week off for finals, the Lady Jaspers host Cornell on Dec. 19 before concluding non-conference play against crosstown rival Fordham on Dec. 22.
In a change from previous seasons, MAAC play doesn't begin until after the New Year, as Manhattan's final 18 regular season contests are conference tilts. The Lady Jaspers have played at least one conference game in December since the 1999-2000 season, but this season, Manhattan's MAAC opener isn't until Jan. 3, when Rider visits Draddy Gymnasium. The Lady Jaspers conclude the homestand with a matchup against Iona on Jan. 5.
A trip to Western New York starts a three-game road trip and a span where the Lady Jaspers play six of eight games away from home. Manhattan visits Niagara on Jan. 9 and Canisius on Jan. 11 before heading to Baltimore for a Jan. 15 matchup with Loyola. The Lady Jaspers return home to take on Fairfield on Jan. 18, then travel to New Rochelle for the rematch with Iona on Jan. 22. Manhattan plays Fairfield for the second time in six days, this time on the road, on Jan. 24. After hosting Saint Peter's on Jan. 29, the Lady Jaspers visit Rider on Jan. 31.
The Lady Jaspers return home for a Feb. 5 matchup with Siena that is the opener of a Manhattan basketball doubleheader. The men's team takes on Marist following the women's game. Manhattan makes the short trip to Saint Peter's on Feb. 8. After hosting Niagara on Feb. 13, the Lady Jaspers start their final road trip of the season at four-time defending MAAC champion Marist on Feb. 15. Manhattan plays its final road contest at Siena on Feb. 19, then wraps up the regular season with three straight home games. Canisius visits Draddy Gymnasium on Feb. 21 and Loyola comes to Riverdale on Feb. 26. The matchup with the Greyhounds precedes the Manhattan men's team's Senior Day game against Niagara. The Lady Jaspers conclude the regular season with a home game against Marist on Feb. 28.For the third straight year, the 2010 MAAC Basketball Championships will be held at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y., from March 4-7.
