RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College women's basketball team has collected more than $1,300 for cancer research so far this season.  The donations, which total $1,318, will be given to the American Cancer Society to help in the fight against breast cancer.

Manhattan hosted "Hoops for Cancer Night" against Rider on Jan. 24.  Fans were asked to make either a flat donation or pledge a certain amount per basket or per three-pointer at the game.  The Lady Jaspers sank 22 field goals and 10 treys in the 63-47 victory.

"Hoops for Cancer Night" was just one of the Lady Jaspers' breast cancer awareness initiatives this season.  Manhattan hosted its annual "Pink Zone" game on Monday, Feb. 14, when the Lady Jaspers knocked off Iona 63-47.  In addition, the entire team manned a water station at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in September.  That event, one of the largest single-day breast cancer awareness fundraisers in the nation, drew more than 25,000 runners to Central Park West.

The contest against Rider started Manhattan's current seven-game winning streak.  The third-place Lady Jaspers (19-6, 11-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who have won 11 out of 12, visit the only team to beat them during that stretch, MAAC-leading No. 24 Marist (23-2, 14-0 MAAC) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
