|Jaspers Finish Sixth at IC4A Cross Country Championships|
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's cross country team concluded its 2011 season by competing in the annual IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday morning. Led by Zack Price's (Warwick, N.Y.) 27th-place finish, the Jaspers took sixth out of 16 teams in the University Division.
Wearing a Manhattan jersey for the final time, Price completed the five-mile course in 26:51. Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.) was the Jaspers' next finisher. He took 33rd overall in a time of 26:58. Salim Corbin (Patterson, N.J.) placed 36th in 27:07, followed by Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) in 45th (27:19). Rounding out the scorers for Manhattan was Tom Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.), who crossed the line in a time of 27:39, good enough for 54th place. Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) took 58th in 27:47, and Kevin O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.) captured 76th place in 28:29.
The Jaspers collected 194 points in the team standings. Binghamton won the team title with 35 points, while Fordham's Julian Saad was the individual champion (25:28).
At the women's ECAC Championships, only four runners competed for Manhattan. Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden) posted the best time among the women. She ran the five kilometers in 19:27. Also running for the Jaspers were Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) (20:13), Katie O'Connell (Staten Island, N.Y.) (21:43) and Erica Brady (Quincy, Mass.) (21:47).
Because Manhattan didn't field a full team of five runners, the Jaspers didn't receive a team score in the women's race. Albany's Kathryn Fanning finished first overall (18:06) to lead the Great Danes to the team title.
