Six Jaspers Named To MAAC All-Academic Team

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Six members of the Manhattan women's rowing team have been named to the 2011 MAAC All-Academic Teams as announced by the league office. A total of 83 athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale were selected overall.

For the Jaspers, senior Elizabeth Mechmann, junior Victoria Santos and sophomores Kelly Barnes, Monica Dahl, Molly Pekarik and Emily Portanova were all honored after establishing impressive marks in the classroom as well as in the water.

Leading the way, Santos, an exercise science major, accumulated a team-leading 3.74 GPA , while Barnes recorded an impressive 3.72 GPA as a student majoring in mechanical engineering. Marist led all schools with 21 members on both the men's and women's squads.

Manhattan heads back into the water on April 30, when they participate in the Spring Metropolitan Championships in New Rochelle, N.Y.
