RIVERDALE, N.Y. - After almost a decade at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tennis Championships will move to a new location in 2012-Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J. The championships will take place over the weekend of April 28-29 in conjunction with the MAAC Rowing Championships, which will also be held at Mercer County Park that weekend.
The MAAC Tennis Championships have been held at the site of the U.S. Open since 2002. However, the matches shifted to Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J., in the event of inclement weather. The Mercer County Tennis Center features 22 outdoor courts and six indoor courts, meaning the entire Championships will take place at the same site regardless of weather. The facility won the USTA National Outstanding Facility of the Year award in 2008 and the premium court, which will be used for the championship match, includes stadium seating. The MAAC Rowing Championships taken place at Mercer County Park on Lake Mercer annually since 2005. Lake Mercer is the training site for USA Rowing as the national team prepares for the 2012 London Olympics. In addition, Lake Mercer will host the 2012 NCAA Rowing Championships from May 25-27.
