Manhattan Set To Host NJIT On Senior Night

Manhattan (2-10) takes on NJIT (1-12) in a Senior Night tilt at Gaelic Park on Saturday, April 22 with opening face-off tabbed for 7:00 pm.



THANK YOU SENIORS
Prior to the match, seniors Alex Abiog, Connor Flannery, Matt Garvey, Frank Merrill and Gian Noto will be honored for their service to the program.
Abiog Career Capsule: 55 games | 21 goals | 6 assists | 31 ground balls

LAST YEAR VS. NJIT
* The Jaspers posted an impressive 14-5 win over the Highlanders thanks to five goals from sophomore Parker Giarratana and a career-high 21 saves from junior Michael Zingaro.
* Garvey added two goals and three assists while junior Conor Darby and sophomore Cole Johnson each netted a hat trick.
* Giarratana earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors for his performance while Zingaro was cited as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.

THE SERIES
* Manhattan holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with NJIT, claiming wins in each of the previous two seasons.

PARKER CONTINUES TO STAND OUT
* Giarratana continues to rank among the MAAC leaders with 2.17 goals per game (4th MAAC) – including six man-up goals (2nd MAAC) - and 2.92 points per game (6th MAAC). 

ALSO AMONG THE LEADERS
* Zingaro is fourth in the nation with a MAAC-leading 12.33 saves per game.
* Junior Joseph Bressingham paces the MAAC and ranks 17th nationally with 6.18 ground balls per game. He is also second in the circuit and 36th in the Division I ranks with a .519 face-off percentage.
* Freshman CJ Scharf is seventh in the MAAC with 1.08 assists per game.

SCOUTING NJIT
* NJIT is led by Aaron Forster (32 goals, 9 assists), Ryan Callaghan (18 goals, 10 assists) and Ryan Darrow (12 goals, 7 assists).
* The Highlanders have just one win on the year but their record is deceiving as the third-year program has five losses by four goals or less, including two by just one.

LAST WEEK
* Freshman Mike Lombardi scored a career-high two goals against Marist while Darby matched him with a season-high two scores.

MANHATTAN TO PLAY ON ESPNU
* The Jaspers' game at Monmouth on Friday, April 28 at 4:00 pm will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

IN MANHATTAN'S TWO VICTORIES ...
* Giarratanta has both game-winning goals with each victory coming by a 14-13 count. In the win over Wagner, he netted the game-winner in triple overtime before finding the back of the net in a double-overtime triumph over Hartford.
* The preseason All-MAAC selection paces the Jaspers with 26 goals and 35 points.

YEAH, IT FEELS GOOD
* Manhattan's win over Hartford avenged a 12-point setback to the Hawks a year ago after also defeating a Wagner team that bested the Jaspers by seven goals last season.

GRINNELL NAMED MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
* Grinnell became the second Jasper to be named MAAC Rookie of the Week after scoring three goals with an assist and three ground balls over two games against Delaware and UMass Lowell.
* On the year, Grinnell has 10 goals, seven assists and 20 ground balls and is the second Jasper to take home Rookie of the Week honors this year.

PELLETIER NAMED MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
* Freshman Trevor Pelletier earned his MAAC Rookie of the Week honors after scoring four goals with two assists over his first two collegiate matches.
* The Miami native opened his career with a goal and an assist against Bryant before scoring three goals with an assist in Manhattan's thrilling 14-13 triple-overtime win against Wagner.
* On the year, Pelletier has 14 goals, four assists and 10 ground balls.

THE JASPER NEWCOMERS ...
* Have combined for 59 of Manhattan's 106 goals and 40 of its 62 assists this year.

RING THE BELL
* Flannery was among a group of people invited to help ring the opening bell for the Nasdaq Stock Exchange as part of the One Love Foundation. The One Love Foundation was celebrating reaching over 100,000 people with their Escalation Workshop -- a training program that details warning signs of relationship abuse and how to handle them. GIARRATANA TABBED PRESEASON ALL-MAAC
* Giarratana, last year's MAAC Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-MAAC selection, was tabbed Preseason All-MAAC while Manhattan was selected to finish seventh.

LUCKY NUMBER NINE
Saturday night's game with NJIT will be the Jaspers' ninth home match in 2017, which is the most in program history.

2002 MAAC CHAMPIONS RECOGNIZED
The Jaspers' 2002 Men's Lacrosse Team, which won the lone MAAC Championship in program history, will be recognized at halftime of last Saturday’s game against Quinnipiac. For the complete photo gallery click HERE.

IN 2002 …
Manhattan rolled to a perfect 7-0 league record before besting Saint Joseph's in the first round of the MAAC Tournament and Mount St. Mary's in the Championship before dropping a hard-fought contest to Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament.

TANNER INDUCTED TO HALL OF FAME
Eugene Tanner
, '05 was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame this past winter. Tanner is the Jaspers’ all-time leader in assists (89) and points (186), while his 98 career goals are second-most all-time. Tanner also was selected to the MAAC'S 35th Anniversary Second Team this past summer.
