Manhattan Takes On LIU Brooklyn In Final MAAC Tune-Up
RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College women’s lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday for its final contest before the start of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play next week. The Jaspers (1-5) will take on LIU Brooklyn (2-4) at 3:30 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, NY. The contest was moved from LU Brooklyn’s campus due to field conditions caused by this week’s winter storm.
In its last outing, Manhattan dropped a 15-5 decision at Rutgers on Wednesday. Darby Nolan (Oak Ridge, NJ) had two goals in that game and is tied for the team lead with 11 tallies on the season. Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY) has also scored 11 goals, and she also paces the Jaspers in points (16). Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY) has picked up 133 ground balls, while Caitlin Murphy’s (Carmel, NY) 11 draw controls are the most on the squad. Hailey Siemek (Bel Air, MD), meanwhile, boasts a team-high 10 caused turnovers. In goal, Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY) has made 56 saves with an 11.62 goals against average.
LIU Brooklyn recorded a 22-11 victory last Friday at Gardner-Webb. Jenn Peters paces the Blackbirds with 14 goals and 20 points, while Mary McQueen has scored 12 goals this season. Sierra O’Connor leads the team in both ground balls (20) and caused turnovers (12), and Kathryn Harvey’s 18 draw controls are the most on the squad. Virginia Gibbons has played every minute in goal. She’s tallied 43 saves while putting together a 15.64 goals against average.Last season at Gaelic Park, the Blackbirds notched a 15-12 victory over the Jaspers. Manhattan’s last win over LIU Brooklyn was a 10-6 triumph in Riverdale on March 6, 2013.
