Manhattan Hits the Road to Face Niagara
RIVERDALE, NY – After playing three of its last four games at Gaelic Park, the Manhattan College women’s lacrosse team (3-8, 0-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) hits the road on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup at Niagara (4-7, 1-1 MAAC). Four of the Jaspers’ final five contests will be away from Riverdale.
Manhattan is looking to snap a two-game losing streak. In their last outing, the Jaspers dropped a 16-9 decision to Marist on Wednesday. Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY) leads the team with 27 goals and 36 points, while Darby Nolan (Cedar Grove, NJ) has found the back of the net 18 times this season. Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY) has recorded a squad-best 32 draw controls, and Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY) paces Manhattan with 28 ground balls. Hailey Siemek (Bel Air, MD), meanwhile, has caused 16 turnovers. Goalkeeper Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY) ranks third in the MAAC in goals against average (11.86) and fifth in both saves per game (9.55) and save percentage (.459).
Niagara suffered a 20-10 defeat at Michigan on Tuesday night and has lost three straight overall. Rachel MacCheyne and Alexis Morales rank third and fourth in the MAAC in scoring. MacCheyne averages 2.82 goals per game, while Morales tallies 2.64 goals per contest. Grace Hunt, meanwhile, is second in the league with 2.18 assists per outing. Alexandra Higgins in the conference leader in draw controls (5.45 per game), and she also paces the Purple Eagles in both ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (21). In goal, Andrea Francisco has made 95 saves and put together a 12.32 goals against average.Last season at Gaelic Park, the Purple Eagles posted a 12-8 victory over the Jaspers. Manhattan’s last win over Niagara was a 15-11 triumph on April 19, 2014.
