RIVERDALE, NY – Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY) of the Manhattan College women’s lacrosse team has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week.  She earned victories over Iona and Siena, as the Jaspers won consecutive MAAC games for the first time since April 19-23, 2014.

Against Iona on Wednesday night, Prestiano made 11 saves, including two late in regulation that kept the game tied.  She allowed just two goals over the final 33:41, as Manhattan notched a 10-9 double-overtime victory.  Prestiano followed up that performance with another 11-save effort in the 15-12 win at Siena on Saturday.  She had a .512 save percentage and a goals against average of 10.19 in the two games.

This is the second career MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for Prestiano.  She was previously selected on Feb. 15, 2016.  Prestiano becomes the second Manhattan player to earn a MAAC weekly award this season.  Emily Sandford (Floral Park, NY) was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on March 13.

The Jaspers (5-9, 2-4 MAAC) are currently tied for sixth place in the MAAC with two games remaining in the regular season.  Manhattan visits Monmouth (4-10, 2-3 MAAC) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday for a contest that will be broadcast on ESPN3.
