Jaspers Conclude Season at Fairfield
RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College women’s lacrosse team (5-10, 2-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) concludes its 2017 campaign on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. matchup at Fairfield (10-5, 6-1 MAAC). The Jaspers have posted their most wins since 2009 in Katie McConnell’s first season as head coach.
Manhattan was eliminated from MAAC Tournament contention with a loss at Monmouth last Wednesday. Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY) paces the Jaspers in goals (34), assists (16) and points (50), while Darby Nolan (Oak Ridge, NJ) has contributed 25 goals this season. Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY) has 27 ground balls to go along with 15 caused turnovers and a team-high 47 draw controls. Kara Hodapp (Oak Ridge, NJ) has controlled 35 draws, and Hailey Siemek (Bel Air, MD) leads Manhattan with 18 caused turnovers. Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY), meanwhile, has a team-high 38 ground balls. In goal, Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY) (5-10) has made 148 saves and put together a goals against average of 11.51.
Fairfield, which has locked up the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament, saw its eight-game winning streak snapped with a 15-10 loss at Canisius on Saturday. Riley Hellstein is second in the MAAC in both goals per game (3.14) and points per game (4.21). Erin Mammelle, meanwhile, has 74 draw controls and is fourth in the league with 4.93 draw controls per game. Scarlett Sulliman paces the Stags in ground balls with 33. Caleigh O’Connor (10-5) is the only goalkeeper in the MAAC allowing fewer than 10 goals per game. Her goals against average is 9.18, and she’s also recorded a save percentage of .459.Last season at Gaelic Park, the Stags came away with a 13-8 victory on April 27. Manhattan hasn’t beaten Fairfield since earning a 12-7 triumph on April 1, 2007.
