Three Jaspers Earn All-MAAC Honors
BUFFALO, NY – Three members of the Manhattan College women's lacrosse team received All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors during the conference's annual Postseason Awards Show at Canisius College's Montante Cultural Center. Sophomore Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY) was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, while freshmen Emily Sandford (Floral Park, NY) and Hailey Siemek (Bel Air, MD) were both selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
Kaishian, who was an All-Rookie Team selection in 2016, started every game on defense. She led the Jaspers with 41 ground balls, and her 2.56 ground balls per game were sixth-most in the MAAC. Kaishian also ranked third on the squad in both caused turnovers (15) and draw controls (27).
Sandford, a midfielder, also started every contest. She scored 16 goals, including a pair of four-goal games in wins over Saint Mary's (March 12) and LIU Brooklyn (March 18). Sandford was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for her performance against Saint Mary's. She added five assists, 21 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers in 2017.
Siemek, meanwhile, led the Jaspers with 19 caused turnovers. The defender started all 16 games and finished third on the team with 29 ground balls.
In addition, the MAAC All-Academic Team was announced, and Kaishian was one of 10 Manhattan players recognized for her success in the classroom. Juniors Liz Pierson (Carlisle, PA), Maddie Regal (Ellicott City, MD) and Katie Tucker (Gorham, ME) were honored for the second consecutive year. They were joined on the MAAC All-Academic Team by junior Kara Hodapp (Oak Ridge, NJ), as well as sophomores Jillian Calandra (Sewell, NJ), Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY), Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY), Talia Price (Kinnelon, NJ) and Nicole Quivelli (Airmont, NY). To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have completed two semesters at their institution and possess a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.
