Manhattan Drops 1-0 Decision At Niagara
Niagara University, NY - Despite a furious second-half rally, Manhattan dropped a 1-0 decision to Niagara at the NU Soccer Field.
In defeat, the Jaspers fall to 1-12-3 and 1-6-2 in the MAAC while the Purple Eagles improve to 4-11-1 and 3-6 in the league.
In the opening stanza, Niagara was the aggressors in notching the first seven shots of the match before Saiaz Saenz opened the scoring in the 36th minute off a Fabrizio Chiari assist.
After intermission, Manhattan outshot the Purple Eagles by a 9-4 count with senior Fabian Burnett (Bloomfield, CT / Monroe College) providing the best Jasper opportunity in the 72nd minute when his header attempt hit the crossbar.
Graduate student Deljan Bregasi (Boglidsco (Genoa), Italy / St. Thomas University) made three saves while Burnett had a team-best four saves to round out the top Manhattan performers.
The Jaspers will conclude the 2016 season on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 pm against local-rival Iona.
Manhattan's seven seniors will be honored for their dedication to the program in a pregame ceremony .
