 Manhattan (2-9) will now open the Strike Out Cancer Tournament against host Seton Hall (7-8) on Friday, March 17 at 2:00 pm. Following the conclusion of the game the rest of the tournament schedule will be announced.

LAST WEEKEND
The Jaspers dropped a pair of games to UMass Lowell despite the play of sophomore Fabian Pena, who hit a blistering .571 (4-for-7) with two doubles and a walk.

FOR STARTERS
Junior Brendan Bisset is reaching base at a stellar .462 clip (6-of-13) since moving to the leadoff spot in the order three games ago while hitting safely each time out.

BROWN LEADING THE WAY
After not playing last year, senior Evan Brown has made his return felt in a big way and is batting a team-best .346 (9-of-26) with four runs, three doubles, one home run, three RBI and three multi-hit performances.

PENA PLUGGING ALONG
Pena batted a team-leading .467 (7-of-16) last week and has a team-leading 14 hits and five doubles while adding two runs and two RBI. He has also thrown out 40.0 percent (6-of-15) of runners on the bases.  

LAST YEAR VS. SETON HALL
Junior Michael Pfenninger hit .400 (4-of-10) with a pair of stolen bases while the trio of Jacques, junior LHP Tom Cosgrove and senior RHP Joey Rocchietti combined to post a 2.08 ERA against the Pirates while limiting the SHU hitters to a .259 average.

DUFFY AND SETON HALL
Head Coach Jim Duffy was a three-time All-BIG EAST performer at Seton Hall from 1993-1996 before helping the Pirates to the 2011 BIG EAST Championship as an assistant coach. 

AGAINST THE PIRATES
Manhattan has dropped seven-straight to SHU, last winning by a 2-1 count in 13 innings on March 15, 2013 thanks to Kyle Murphy's RBI single.

NICE TO SEE YOU
Last year's volunteer assistant Giuseppe Papaccio is in the same role this season for Seton Hall.

ABOUT SETON HALL
The Pirates are 7-8 and recently split eight games in Florida, taking two from Stetson and one each from Florida and South Alabama.

PENA NAMED TO JOHNNY BENCH AWARD LIST
Pena was named to the official watch list for the 2017 Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. On the year, he is hitting .278 with a team-best 10 hits and three doubles while throwing out 42.9 percent (6-of-14) of runners attempting to steal.

THAT'S FAST
Senior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) was tabbed as one of the top-five stolen base threats in the Division I ranks by the NCAA. On the year, he is hitting .280 with seven hits, five runs and a stolen base. For the entire article click HERE.

The Jaspers will play its first 17 games either on the road or at a neutral site.

DUTCHESS STADIUM
Manhattan will call Duchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, NY home for the third-straight season.

DUFFY BACK FOR SIXTH YEAR
Duffy returns to Riverdale for his sixth year at the helm of the Jaspers. Duffy guided Manhattan to the MAAC Championship in 2012 and last season won his 100th career game.

PENA GARNERS PRESEASON HONORS
On the heels of his landmark rookie campaign, Pena was tabbed as the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year in the annual Coaches Poll as well as by Baseball AmericaCollegiate BaseballD1 Baseball and Perfect Game.

TOP PROSPECT(S)
Pena also was selected as the No. 1 MAAC Pro Prospect for the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by D1Baseball.Com and was slated as the 130th top collegiate prospect for the 2018. Cosgrove was also slated as the top prospect for the 2017 MLB Draft by Baseball America and as the fourth-best by D1Baseball.Com. Additionally 2016 First Team All-MAAC selection Jose Carrera was picked as the No. 10 pro prospect in the circuit by Baseball America.

NEWCOMERS
The Jaspers welcome nine student-athletes to the fold this year, including five pitchers and four position players.

MAAC PRESEASON POLL
Manhattan was tabbed to finish fourth and return to the MAAC Tournament in the annual preseason Coach Poll for the second-straight year and fourth time in Duffy's tenure in Riverdale.

THE STAFF
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Brian McCullough is back for his second year while assistant coach Danny Benedetti is in his first season.

2006 TEAM INDUCTED TO HALL OF FAME
The landmark 2006 Manhattan Baseball team that upset nationally ranked Nebraska en route to a second-place finish at the Lincoln Regional was selected to the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame this past fall.

UP NEXT
Manhattan will travel to Stony Brook (Tuesday, March 21) and NYIT (Wednesday, March 22) for a midweek road games.
