Seton Hall Rallies For 7-2 Win Over Manhattan
South Orange, NJ - Fueled by a three-run fourth inning, Seton Hall rallied for a 7-2 win over Manhattan in non-conference action at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Pirates improve to 8-8 while the Jaspers fall to 2-10.
Manhattan opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Junior Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) got aboard via a one-out single before moving to third on a field error. Senior Evan Brown (Ashburnham, MA / Bridgton Academy (ME)) followed with a successful safety squeeze in plating the first score.
One inning later, the Jaspers added to the lead with another unearned run. Junior Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) reached via a one-out single and would come around to score on classmate Brendan Bisset’s (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ) RBI single.
Seton Hall got one run back in the bottom of the second on a RBI ground out before taking the lead with three runs in the fourth.
Matt Toke would push the lead out to 6-2 with a two-run double in the sixth before the Pirates added one more run in the seventh while providing the final 7-2 score.
Senior LHP Joe Jacques (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) was saddled with the loss, yielding five runs on six hits with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
Freshman RHP Nick Massa (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) was solid out of the bullpen, working 1.1 perfect frames.
Zach Prendergast earned the win for Seton Hall, yielding two unearned runs on four hits with four strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
Ryan Ramiz went 3-for-4 with three runs and a RBI while Toke had three RBI to pace a 10-hit Pirate attack.
