Tampa, FL - Senior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) became the second former Jasper this month to join the professional ranks when he signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees at their spring training facility.

"I'm thrilled for Jose to have the opportunity to play at the next level within the Yankees organization," said Head Coach Jim Duffy. "He has been the heart and soul of the Manhattan Baseball program over the last four years. Now he has his chance to chase his dream. I'm proud of him and his perseverance. He's a great example that hard work, faith and believing in yourself can go a long way."

In his final season at Manhattan, Carrera hit .266, including .299 during MAAC play, with seven doubles, two triples and 11 stolen bases. Down the stretch, the Sunshine State native batted .309 with 12 runs and six doubles while hitting safely in 14 of his last 16 games as the Jaspers qualified for the MAAC Tournament on the final day of the season.

Carrera will be starting his professional career with the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Yankees East and joins former assistant coach Elvys Quezada, who is a coach within the organization.
