RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan College sophomore outfielder Mark Onorati was recently named the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s (NYCBL) Player of the Year after a memorable season with the Amsterdam Mohawks summer team. Onorati helped guide the Mohawks to a second place finish during the regular-season in the Eastern Division (26-14), and propelled his team to the divisional finals. Jasper teammate Tom Moran was selected Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) Relief Pitcher of the Year after a brilliant season with the Peekskill Robins.
Onorati finished the 2008 season leading the league in runs scored (38) and runs batted in (32), while ranking second with 20 stolen bases, seven home runs and 77 total bases. Onorati batted .309, posted 46 hits, including 10 doubles, boasted a .517 slugging percentage and .400 on-base percentage. In total, he started 36 contests, including 31 in center field, and compiled 16 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI efforts.
The Williston Park native represented the Mohawks at the 2008 Eastern Division All-Star Game. In addition, he received the Bellizzi Big Stick Award which is presented to the All-Star Game Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Onorati returns to the Jaspers’ lineup after a promising rookie campaign. In 2008, Onorati earned Second Team All-MAAC honors. He finished the regular-season ranked second in the MAAC for hits (60) and runs scored (53). He was second on the team in home runs (7), doubles (14), on-base percentage (.454) and fielding percentage (.989).
Moran, a 6-6 right-hander from Farmington, Conn., completed the season for Peekskill with a 6-0 record, 1.61 ERA and 52 strikeouts over 50 innings of action. Moran led the league with 19 appearances, tied for second in wins, was fourth in both earned runs average and strikeouts, while also standing fifth holding opponents to a .201 batting average. Additionally, Moran was selected to the 2008 ACBL All-Star Team.
At Manhattan, Moran was strong in 2008 as he led all Jasper pitchers with a 2.78 ERA and posted a 3-1 record in 16 appearances out of the bullpen. He notched 29 strikeouts in 29.1 innings of work.
