FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - For the second straight season, the Manhattan College women's tennis team entered the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships as the No. 6 seed.  And for the second straight year, the Lady Jaspers faced third-seeded Loyola in the quarterfinals.  Unfortunately for Manhattan (4-13), this season ended the same way last year did, as the Greyhounds (13-5) posted a 7-0 victory at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Loyola took an early lead in doubles play, as Judy Lite and Scarlett Hoy notched an 8-0 win over Christina Ton (Milipitas, Calif.) and Nora Hulton Sacchi (Rome, Italy) at No. 3 doubles.  Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches were closer, but each time the Greyhounds came out on top.  Loyola's No. 1 team of Rachel Janasek and Kerri Swan posted an 8-5 triumph over Lili Johnson (Tulsa, Okla.) and Stephanie Tsao (Scarsdale, N.Y.), while Andie Keyser-Baker and Joy Johnson defeated Hilary Valenzuela (Mesa, Ariz.) and Christina Puleo (Leonia, N.J.) 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, the Greyhounds won five of the six matches in straight sets.  The only match that went the distance was at No. 1, where Lili Johnson and Janasek split 6-2 sets.  Since the outcome had already been decided, the third set was a 10-point super-tiebreak.  Janasek won the third set, 10-5, to seal a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 victory and finish off a sweep for Loyola.

After Swan easily won the first set against Valenzuela at No. 2 singles, the second set went to a tiebreak.  Swan claimed the tiebreak, 7-2, to post a 6-1, 7-6 win.  Joy Johnson lost just three games against Ton at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2.  In the regular season meeting between the teams on March 26, Puleo's win over Keyser-Baker at No. 4 singles was the Lady Jaspers' only victory in a 6-1 loss.  Keyser-Baker returned the favor on Friday, however, knocking off Puleo 6-2, 6-3.  Lite swept Tsao 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, while Hoy secured a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Hulton Sacchi in the No. 6 position.

In addition, the MAAC All-Academic Team was announced earlier in the day on Friday.  Hulton Sacchi was the only Manhattan player named to this year's team, marking her second straight All-Academic selection.
