Manhattan Releases 2017 Schedule
RIVERDALE, NY – Three early-season tournaments and 11 home matches at Draddy Gymnasium highlight the 2017 Manhattan College volleyball schedule. The Jaspers will play 31 matches their first season under new Head Coach Lora Sarich, beginning with the Western Illinois Tournament on Aug. 25-26.
This marks the second time in three years that Manhattan will travel to Illinois. In addition to host Western Illinois, the Jaspers will face Chicago State and Evansville. Manhattan then opens its home slate by taking on Fordham in the “Battle of the Bronx” on Aug. 30. The Jaspers' next two weekends will be spent on the road for tournaments at Holy Cross (Sept. 1-2) and Bryant (Sept. 8-9).
“I'm excited to compete this fall,” Sarich said. “The first three weekends will be a good opportunity for us to prepare for conference play. It will be great to see how we evolve as a team throughout the season.”
After hosting NJIT on Sept. 13, Manhattan starts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play by welcoming Quinnipiac (Sept. 16) and Fairfield (Sept. 17), the two teams that met in last season's MAAC championship match, to Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers then begin a four-match road trip with a non-conference tilt at St. Francis Brooklyn on Sept. 19. Manhattan also visits Iona (Sept. 23), Marist (Sept. 30) and Siena (Oct. 1) before returning home.
On Oct. 7, the Jaspers start a season-long four-match homestand against Niagara. Manhattan welcomes Canisius to Draddy Gymnasium the next day, then takes on Saint Peter's (Oct. 14) and Rider (Oct. 15) the following weekend.
Manhattan will make the quick trip to Fairleigh Dickinson for its final non-conference tilt of the season on Oct. 18. That contest is the first of six straight road matches, as the Jaspers will travel to Connecticut for the rematches with Fairfield (Oct. 21) and Quinnipiac (Oct. 22) before making their annual trip to Buffalo. Manhattan visits Canisius on Oct. 28 and Niagara on Oct. 29. The Jaspers conclude the road swing with a midweek matchup at Saint Peter's on Nov. 1.
The Jaspers play three of their final four matches at home. Manhattan hosts Iona on Nov. 4 before wrapping up its road slate at Rider on Nov. 8. The Jaspers then end the regular season with home matches against Siena (Nov. 11) and Marist (Nov. 12).At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams will qualify for the MAAC Tournament, which will be held at Fairfield's Alumni Hall from Nov. 17-19. Manhattan is looking to return to the MAAC Tournament after seeing its streak of three straight appearances snapped in 2016.
