New York, NY - Rising Volleyball junior Samantha Wagner (Sandy, UT) was able to incorporate her love of the sport and her career aspirations into a weekend internship with the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) in early June.

For the third-straight year, the AVP hosted the New York City Open at the Hudson River pier, just half a mile from the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, One World Trade Center.

Wagner applied for the event and was one of just two people chosen for this prestigious opportunity. She assisted with the productions department with various giveaways and interactive games.

"Working with the AVP was an incredible experience because of the incredible culture of the community," said Wagner. "The athletes and staff are extremely hardworking and manage to create a fun, competitive workplace environment."

Besides gaining valuable work experience, Wagner was able to watch some of the top volleyball players in the world such as April Ross, Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal.

"It was very cool to be surrounded by beach volleyball players I have watched play in the Olympics. It was really exciting to watch Jake Gibb win the tournament, because he is from my hometown. I would congratulate him after each game and is not only a talented athlete but also a geniune person."
