Kayla Grimme Earns Third Team All-MAAC Honors
RIVERDALE, NY – Junior center Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA) of the Manhattan College women’s basketball team has been named Third Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) by the league’s 11 head coaches. This is Grimme’s first career All-MAAC selection.
Earlier this season, Grimme became Manhattan’s all-time blocks leader, and her 2.0 blocks per game are the most in the conference. She ranks fifth with 7.8 rebounds per contest and eighth with 14.4 points per outing. Grimme is also fifth in the MAAC in field goal percentage (.473) and seventh in free throw percentage (.780). In conference play, she averaged MAAC-highs in scoring (17.7 ppg) and blocks (1.8 bpg) while shooting a league-best .477 from three-point range.
Grimme reached double-figures in scoring 21 times this season, including seven 20-point games (six of which came in MAAC play). She surpassed the 25-point barrier four times and tallied a career-high 34 points at Marist in the regular season finale on Sunday. In addition, Grimme had nine double-digit rebounding efforts and seven double-doubles, including five in a seven-game stretch from Jan. 20-Feb. 12.
The 10th-seeded Jaspers (8-21, 4-16 MAAC) open the MAAC Tournament against No. 7 Monmouth (14-15, 9-11 MAAC) at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. The winner of that contest will face Rider (22-7, 16-4 MAAC), the No. 2 seed, in the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. on Friday
