Kayla Grimme Named Third Team All-Metropolitan
RIVERDALE, NY – After leading the Manhattan College women’s basketball team in scoring, rebounding and blocks during the 2016-17 season, junior center Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA) has been named to the All-Metropolitan Third Team by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. She’s the first Jasper to earn All-Met honors since Abby Wentworth was selected to the First Team in 2010-11.
Grimme, who was also named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Third Team, started all 30 games this season, tallying 14.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per contest. She ranked fifth in the MAAC in scoring and seventh in rebounding while also leading the league in blocks. In addition, Grimme was fifth in the conference in both field goal percentage (.474) and free throw percentage (.788).
In MAAC play, she tallied a league-best 17.7 points per contest. Grimme also led the MAAC in three-point percentage (.477) and blocks (1.8 bpg) in conference games. She reached double-figures in scoring 21 times, including a career-high 34-point effort at Marist on Feb. 26, and posted seven double-doubles. On Jan. 26, Grimme became Manhattan’s all-time blocks leader.
The All-Met teams will be recognized at the 84th annual NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner on Wednesday night. The oldest annual college basketball awards dinner in the nation, the NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner honors men’s and women’s players in Divisions I, II and III from all schools within the tri-state area.
