Riverdale, NY  Four Manhattan College teams were cited by the NCAA for their impressive performance in the classroom in earning Public Recognition Awards from the governing body.  Manhattan's golf, softball, women's basketball and women's cross country programs were among 1,203 teams that were publicly recognized for their academic achievement, based on their most recent Academic Progress Rate.

This is the fourth straight Public Recognition Award for the golf team, while the softball team was honored for the third consecutive year.  The women's basketball team, meanwhile, received a Public Recognition Award for the second year in a row.  The women's cross country squad earned the award for the first time.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.  Public Recognition Awards are given to those teams that rank among the top 10 percent in their sport.

The 1,203 teams publicly recognized for high achievement include 746 women's teams and 457 men's or mixed squads. This year, the total number of teams being recognized increased by 132 from last year, largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores.

The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 983 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport. Earning a perfect APR score were 1,090 teams.

The APR, which is in its 12th year, measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.

All Division I teams' APR scores will be released Wednesday, May 10.
