Manhattan Impresses In Final Regular Season Meet
QUEENS, NY – On Sunday morning, the Manhattan College women’s cross country team competed for the final time before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The Jaspers took part in the SJU Fall Festival at Cunningham Park and secured fourth place in the team standings.
This was Manhattan’s second meet in as many days, and no one that competed on Saturday raced again on Sunday. Instead, the Jaspers ran a completely different squad over the 4000-meter course.
Victoria Cruz (West Nyack, NY) was Manhattan’s top finisher. She placed 18th in 15:27.9. Gianna Tinto (Kings Park, NY) secured 19th place with a 15:33.6 clocking, while Megan Carmody (Rumford, RI) crossed the line 27th in 16:21.7. Erin Von Dollen (Blauvelt, NY) came in just behind Carmody in 28th place (16:27.6), followed closely by Jacquie Roda (Staten Island, NY) in 30th (17:05.3). Mary Kate Himmelberg (Middletown, NJ) ended up 38th in 17:38.1, and Kim Jelich (Malverne, NY) placed 43rd in 18:33.0.
With 122 points, the Jaspers ended up fourth in the team standings. St. John’s edged Fordham 41-43 for the team title.
Manhattan also entered three runners in the five-kilometer men’s race. Joseph Lundberg (Freehold, NJ) placed fifth overall in 15:55.8, while Nicolas O’Brien (Clifton Park, NY) was 10th in 16:11.1. Adam Alshoubeki (Monroe, NY), meanwhile, took 21st in a time of 16:53.3.The Jaspers will now have a week off before heading to Orlando, FL, for the MAAC Championships on Oct. 29. Manhattan’s men finished sixth and the women were seventh at last year’s MAAC Championships.
