Jaspers Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Distinction
RIVERDALE, NY – For the 39th time in 40 semesters, the Manhattan College women’s swimming & diving team has been named a Scholar All-America squad by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The men’s team was also honored, marking its 14th selection in the last 17 semesters.
Only teams that achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2016 Fall semester were eligible for the award. The Manhattan men had a team GPA of 3.22, the best since the program’s reinstatement in 2008-09, while the women’s squad posted a cumulative GPA of 3.03.
“I’m really proud of the performances by both our men’s and women’s teams last semester,” Head Coach Joe Murtha said. “Academics always have and always will come first for this program, and my student-athletes constantly strive for excellence. Since day one, our goal has been to exceed the requirements for this distinction. I look forward to everyone continuing this success.”
Overall, there were a record 638 teams from 394 institutions recognized. The average GPA among Division I award winners was 3.31.
