Rowing Set To Open Spring Season Saturday
Riverdale, NY - The Manhattan Women's Rowing team will open the spring portion of its schedule this weekend at the Sacred Heart Fool's Challenge on Saturday, April 1.
Over spring break, ,the Jaspers travelled to Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, South Carolina for an arduous week of spring training. During the week the girls had three vigorous practices a day in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming spring season.
On Friday March 17, Manhattan competed in a 2,000-kilometer race against Bowdoin College, racing one varsity 8, one varsity 4 and one novice four.
The varsity 8 comprising of stoke seat freshman Allison Eichhorn (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown), freshman Shannon Forty (Westford, MA / Westford Academy), freshman Meredith Domaleski (Cutchogue, NY / Bishop McGann Mercy), senior Kathryn Watroba (Salt Point, NY / Our Lady of Lourdes), sophomore Becca Arcomano (Saugerites, NY / John A. Coleman Catholic), senior Lorraine Piccorelli (Brookfield, CT / Brookfield), sophomore Jillian Rider (Buffalo, NY / Iroquois), and junior Maggie Tebbetts (North Haven, CT / North Haven) had a promising race and finished second (8:12.53).
The varsity 4 with stroke seat freshma Elizabeth McCabe (Alexandria, VA / Bishop Ireton), freshman Shannon Colford (Epping, NH / St. Thomas Aquinas), sophomore Phoebe Costello (North Haven, CT / Sacred Heart) and sophomore Grace Murphy (Burlington, MA / Burlington) put forth a solid effort in finishing third at 10:00.0.
In the third race, the Freshman Novice 4 with stroke seat freshman Zoe Nikolopulos (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central), freshman Jaclyn Leighton, sophomore Leah McGovern (Floral Park, NY / Out Lady of Victory), and freshman Kate Sexton (Wrentham, MA / King Philip Regional) did well providing their limited water experience pulling at 10:25.0.
